Kenny Feinstein - Founder
Fiddle, Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, Lap-Steel, Vocals,
Kenny is the Founder of all things Water Tower. He has five albums under his belt with various versions of Water Tower he’s put together. He has traveled around the world with his songs and music for more than ten years. He lives in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, but is a transplant from Portland, Oregon. Kenny was raised all around the world, traveling with his family because his father was a global leading Engineer. This included Elementary school in Japan, High School in Mexico City and his California Home in Santa Cruz. He earned a B.A. in Jazz Music at University of Portland, and shortly after that became a music teacher and “hired- gun” for gigs (guitar, violin, mandolin, banjo). His formal training and globally travels are intertwined throughout his songwriting. Songs like “Fromage” is loosely based on the French Cheese Fromage Frais. The song “Town” is about the struggle of leaving his Portland home for a cleaner lifestyle. In 2018 he met music business veteran Joanne Ledesma and through her landed a booking at the renowned 2019 Huck Finn Jubilee. “Kenny is a musical gem and I just had to introduce him to the festival owners who not only booked Water Tower, but hired him as the official Emcee for 2019 and 2020 festivals.” In 2019 Ledesma became their formal manager and she says “Kenny is so focused, so talented and so seasoned, that I’m sure 2020 will be his best year yet for Water Tower”.
Joe "Juice" Bergland
Fiddle, Banjo, Bass, Vocals
Joe “Juice” Berglund
In 2017 Kenny saw Juice doing yard work outside his Los Angeles Home. Kenny, being the friendly guy that he is, offered him lunch. Juice wasn’t sure what to make of Kenny but agreed to come inside for a meal. They immediately hit it off due their similar tastes in music and strong drive to live and breathe music all day, every day. Juice, who is originally from Norwich Connecticut, had been traveling in his car chasing old-time music festivals coast to coast. Kenny, who is formally trained with a B.A in music, was impressed with Juices’ self-taught musicianship and skills on Fiddle, Banjo and Bass. It was an easy decision for Kenny to add him as part the rebirth of Water Tower. Kenny says, “He is the master of the moment on solos, is energy makes you feel like you have been struck by lightning and he’s generally covered in sweat after each set playing fiddle!”
Tom "Tommy" Drinkard
Banjo, Fiddle, Lap-Steel, Vocals
Tommy literally walked right into Kenny’s life, through the front door. He was invited by a mutual friend to a jam in Kenny’s Living room. Tommy had moved from San Mateo, California to Los Angeles in hopes of a establishing a music career with no formal training or specific instrument. He just knew he was a quick learner. Kenny asked Tommy to house sit for a week, and encouraged him to use his lap-steel and learn Water Tower Songs. Kenny was amazed to find that Tommy had learned all the songs well, so he hired him for his first gig. Funny thing is Tommy didn’t play lap-steel on the first gig; instead Kenny put him on Suit-case drum and symbol. Tommy did just fine, so Kenny gave him lessons on Banjo and Fiddle as well and he learned them at an astonishing rate. Kenny also loves Tommy’s vocals. He says “Tommy has a strong “bassy” voice with a “growl” that meshes perfect with my soprano vocals. It’s a win-win situation with the harmonies so he’s got to be in the band!”.
