Grace Calvary Chapel

Grace Calvary Chapel began as small Bible study meeting in a home in the winter of early 1997. Having moved here from Albuquerque, Pastor Joe Marquez had sensed God’s call to begin a fellowship in San Antonio, TX. The actual name of Grace Calvary Chapel was first Northwest Calvary Chapel. The first ten years of the church were one move to another. We met at a home and then at an apartment clubhouse. We moved to the garage of a home where we stayed for a couple of years. We then moved to a hotel meeting room on Loop 410 and later to the Microtel Inn near Downtown San Antonio. It was at the Microtel Inn that the church actually began to develop. Very small at first and for so many years there was always a sense of discouragement that I had to battle. I would ask, “Why wasn’t the church growing? Why am I here?” But the Lord would not allow me to give up, so I persevered. In December 2004 we moved to Alamo Drafthouse on South Loop 410 and the church continued to grow. Here is where we began our radio ministry to reach out to the community. A few years later in 2009 we were able to move out of the Alamo Drafthouse and into a more permanent facility located on Marbach Road. It was at this time that we changed our name to Grace Calvary Chapel. God’s grace had carried us thus far! What began as a small Bible study now is a thriving church of 200 adults and 80 children.
