Grace Baptist Temple
Church Directory

Grace Baptist Temple was established in June of 1954. The first service was held on June 20th, 1954, in the home of David Martin. In September 1954, the church voted to purchase property at 1928 Basse Road where it built and held worship services until 2005. The property was sold and the church met in temporary locations until the purchase and completion of the current facilities were built on an eight-acre campus between Wurzbach Road and Bluemel near the thriving Medical Center area. The entrance to the property is at 4398 Bluemel Road. The 600 seat sanctuary, offices, Sunday School facilities for all ages, nursery, missionary apartment, kitchen and multi-purpose gymnasium minister to its congregation and the neighborhood. The church is led by well-loved Dennis Isbell, who has served at the church since October 1992. His wife Debbie works in the Children’s Ministries including Patch the Pirate Clubs and heads up the ladies ministries. Sunday School classes are offered for all ages from the infant nursery to senior adults and include a ministry to the deaf in the community, as well as, a Nepali ministry. A weekly ladies Bible study – “Lydia Ladies” - is held at 11:00 A.M. each Tuesday. Youth Director Timothy Sweeney and his wife Rebekah lead the “CrossWalk Youth Department”. This Independent Baptist Church is affiliated with the Baptist Bible Fellowship International headquartered in Springfield, MO. The church’s motto is “Preaching the Cross Through the Word to the World” and they regularly support over 100 missionaries and missionary programs. The dedication of Grace Baptist’s people is evidenced by their journey since moving out of the original location at 1928 Basse Road almost seven years ago and completing the new location. The congregation met in a home-school activity center, a movie theater, small groups in homes, the ARC of San Antonio’s facility, then in the “garage” on the church property as well as the drive-through porch before moving into the building. Through it all, all ministries were continued at each location. Service times are 10:00 A.M. for Sunday School, 11:00 A.M. Sunday Worship Service, 6:00 P.M. Sunday Night Bible Study and Wednesday night at 7:00 P.M. for a Bible Survey Study and a Prayer Service. Weekly sermons are available online at the church’s website gbtsa.org with a link to the CrossWalk Youth website and all contact information.
