Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church is a vibrant community of faith located in the heart of San Antonio’s Medical Center. The church’s vision is to be a place of refuge in a stormy world; its mission is to multiply places of refuge throughout our world. Begun as a mission church in the growing northwest side of San Antonio in 1969, SHLC has had a strong presence in the community for more than four decades. Many have come to SHLC for the preaching, teaching, and music; the church is strong in both traditional and contemporary services. Now situated in a busy, diverse community, SHLC is reaching out to its international neighbors through its English as a Second Language program. The outreach-minded church supports local and international missions not only through its donations but also by sending people overseas to serve. The church’s greatest diversity is reflected in its school, which draws a wide variety of people seeking a top-notch education. Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran School, begun in 1980, has a strong reputation as one of the top Christian private schools in San Antonio, Pre K through eighth grade. Its childcare is growing so much that they’ve recently converted meeting and storage rooms into additional childcare rooms. Combined, the school and childcare have 450 students. The highlight of every week is when students 3 year olds through eighth grade – and many of their parents and grandparents – are gathered in the Worship Center for a lively Wednesday morning chapel service!
