Oxford United Methodist Church

The Oxford United Methodist Church, at 9655 Huebner Road, about a mile west of IH10, was begun in 1957. It is a medium sized congregation that is large enough to provide a number of programs, but small enough for a person to know and be known. It offers traditional worship at 9:15 and contemporary worship at 11:30. Doug Boldt, the director at Brennan High School, directs the choir. The band is led by Pat Carey, who, with his wife Michelle are leaders of P.M. Soul, one of the most well-regarded R&B, Soul groups in the city. The mission of Oxford is “to bring people to Jesus and the church, build them up to Christian maturity, train them for ministry, and send them out in mission so that whosoever will may glorify God and enjoy him forever.” Oxford offers Sunday School, Mother’s Day Out, women’s and men’s groups, a vital and open youth program, a very fine Vacation Bible School, and a food pantry. It hosts Meals-on-Wheels and provides many drivers. It hosts the YMCA during the summer and spring and Christmas breaks. The St. Mary’s Orthodox Church (a church consisting primarily of Indians) meets in its chapel.
