One of the two major sets featured in "The Chosen" was used for the final time in recent weeks, marking an emotional milestone for longtime cast and crew members – and a poignant reminder that the series itself is nearing its end.
Director Dallas Jenkins, along with cast and crew, wrapped shooting at Goshen, Utah, for the final time as they worked on Season 7, the final chapter of what has become the biggest Bible entertainment project in decades.
Of course, fans have yet to watch the previous season, Season 6, which wrapped filming last year and will launch on Prime Video Nov. 15. And the first episode of Season 7 isn’t scheduled to premiere until Spring 2028 – more than 18 months from now. But in the world of movies and television, production runs far ahead of what audiences see on screen – meaning the clock on "The Chosen" is already ticking down.
The series’ official YouTube channel released a video marking the final days of shooting in Goshen.
“We’ve had hundreds, if not thousands, of people here,” Jenkins said. “... We have maximized tenfold every inch of this place. This has been used to its fullest extent and beyond what we ever hoped or imagined.”
The Goshen set, a replica of Jerusalem, is owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has been used since Season 2. The team behind The Chosen rented the set, according to the Deseret News.
Essentially, Jenkins and his team began using the Goshen set long before "The Chosen" was a worldwide phenomenon – and definitely before they had the funds to build their own production complex in Texas.
“I feel like we've done everything that we set out to do. I feel like God has blessed us,” Jenkins said. “He's lived up to His promise of lives being changed because of what we do here. So it's definitely a sense of accomplishment.”
Cast members say Goshen brought an authenticity to the series.
“It's the most beautiful set I've ever worked on,” said Dennis Apergis, who portrays Jesse. “Every step you took, you leveled up. It leveled up your performance. It leveled up the emotional connection.”
Jenkins said upon visiting the set for the first time, he “felt like I was transported to the first century.”
James Cunningham, the production designer for the series, said gaining access to Goshen was a turning point that dramatically expanded what the show could accomplish on screen.
“It was a miracle that we got this place. The scope of the show opened up, and the design of the show opened up.”
Jordan Walker Ross, who portrays Little James, said the cast’s first season at Goshen coincided with the series’ booming growth.
“I think Season 2,” Ross said, “is when we all started to realize that the show was catching on, that people were watching it, and it was right around when we were shooting out in Utah for the first time.”
